Chochmat
Chavurahs
In a Chavurah, we share our homes, we break bread,
and we see in each other, ourselves. We listen to each
other’s stories and we create memories together.
Chochmat Chavurot offer you a monthly place to gather
with 10-20 people who share your like interests for
friendship, learning, conversation and support.
According to the American Heritage Dictionary –
Belonging – is to have a close, secure relationship.
Chavurot encourage the development of these types of
intentional and joyful relationships. Joining together
in a more intimate fellowship with others can enable
us to more fully and individually express our needs
and wants as Jews in growth and evolution.
Currently active Chavurahs include: Contemplative Chavurah,
Family Chavurahs (ages 0-10), Generation X Chavurah,
Over 50 Chavurah, LGBTQ, Lake Merritt and San Francisco
Chavurahs.
Please
see our calendar for more details. You can view

Women’s
Rosh Chodesh Group
Rosh Chodesh is an ancient tradition on the Jewish
path, and a beautiful opportunity for women to come
together in strength and song on the new moon. This
intentional women's circle meets once a month (on the
new moon) and focuses on the kabbalistic moon theme
of the month. Using art, ritual, song, meditation, prayer
and movement, this drop-in group meets with the intention
of being supportive, creative, grounding, fun, and soulful.

Chochmat
HaLev's Heart to Heart Committee
What is the Heart to Heart Committee?
We are a group of community members who provide comfort
and support to Chochmat members who are ill, homebound,
isolated and/or otherwise in distress. We…
• Visit the hospital, nursing home, or at your
home.
• Deliver cooked food and/or groceries when members
are unable to cook or shop.
• Drive people to and from doctor’s appointments.
• Pick up medications at a pharmacy when someone
is homebound.
• Provide telephone contact and offer prayers
to a congregant who is ill or homebound.
Building Community Through Ties That Bind
With a growing congregation, we have two sets of needs
as a community: (1) there are more congregants who are
ill, injured, or aging, who need assistance; (2) many
in our community desire to channel their spirituality
into genuine connections with others. We raise sparks
of the Divine by building these connections and helping
one another. Through Heart to Heart, we help others
as we are blessed ourselves.
If You Need Assistance: If you are a member
in need of congregational assistance, please contact
our committee at heart2heart@chochmat.org or call the
office at 510.704.9687. We will mobilize our committee
and do our best to meet your needs, offer comfort and
care.
If You’d Like to Volunteer: We are run
entirely by congregational volunteers. If you have ideas
of how to strengthen our work or are interested in volunteering,
please contact
Nancy Newman, the committee chair, at heart2heart@chochmat.org.
Hospitality
Committee/Chochmat Volunteers
We are a group of people dedicated to making Chochmat
a warm, welcoming, comfortable place to visit for everyone
in the community--newcomers and old-timers, alike. From
greeting those walking into Shabbat services to helping
with Onegs and community celebrations to being available
to families commemorating life events at Chochmat, we
are the personal face of the organization. We proactively
think of what would be useful, homier and more comfortable
here and make it happen.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact
Melanie Grubman at
melanie@chochmat.org.
Torah
Study Gathering
Started by the students in the Maggid Program (Pastoral
Training), this group gathers on Saturday mornings in
the Sanctuary to learn about and discuss a relevant
piece of Torah. Everyone is welcome in this free-form
exploration of the holy scripture, community and the
self.
